Authority vs Individualism, with accountable governance

How do we balance authority and Individualism? 

    Teachings about respecting authority address the importance of social order and cooperation, providing guidance on how individuals can navigate complex societal structures and foster relationships. Respecting authority helps maintain stability and promotes a sense of community, enabling people to work together towards common goals.

    These tenets retain relevance in modern times because they emphasize fundamental principles that transcend specific religious or cultural contexts. Regardless of one's beliefs, respecting authority contributes to the smooth functioning of societies and institutions. It serves as a reminder to approach those in positions of authority with civility and to recognize the roles they play in maintaining order.  The U.S. Constitution provides a balance by codifying government working for the governed, contrary to most philosophies at the time.

    The concept of government working for the people resonates in the American philosophy of freedom by valuing individual liberty and recognizing the importance of accountable governance. It asserts that governments derive their authority from the consent of the governed and should serve the best interests of the citizens. This philosophy empowers individuals to actively engage in the democratic process, voice their concerns, and demand transparency and responsiveness from their elected representatives.

Some parallels between teachings on authority and the American philosophy of freedom include:
